SUPERCOMPUTING - HORUS

This supercomputer was build at Geosciences Center by Vlad Manea & Marina Manea without a sys admin

There are 34 compute nodes in active service, each with one or two processors or CPUs, each with 2 or 4 cores. A single computational job could use 188 cores.

Each compute node has:
  • two Intel Quad Core processors
    • 2.6 GHz
      8 of level 2 cache
      64-bit architecture
    or
  • two AMD Dual/Quad Core processors
    • 2.6 GHz
      8 of level 2 cache
      64-bit architecture
  • 8 -16 -32 GB of RAM
  • one hard disk
    • SATA
      250/500GB
      7.2kRPM

  • one Gigabit Ethernet port
  • one power supply
  • Master/Login nodes
    The login node is also the master node (frontend). This is one single PowerEdge 2970 server which serves as a central "master node" for the cluster. Several elements (DNS, ntp, default LSF master) of cluster infrastructure run on or originate from this server.

    Shared filesystem (Dell PE 2970 + PERC5E)
    1xDell MD1000 - 14x1TB SATA drives in one volume (RAID5)
    1xDell MD1000 - 14x1TB SAS drives in one volume (RAID5)

    UPS:
    1 x Gamatronic Power+ 30 kVA for the entire cluster
    1 x CyberPower 1.5 kVA only for critical serices
