SUPERCOMPUTING - HORUS

This supercomputer was build at Geosciences Center by Vlad Manea & Marina Manea without a sys admin

There are 34 compute nodes in active service, each with one or two processors or CPUs, each with 2 or 4 cores. A single computational job could use 188 cores.

Master node

  • Server model: 1 x Dell PE2970
  • Processor type: AMD Opteron 2 x Dual core 2.8 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Cards: PERC 5i Integrated Raid Controller
Computing nodes

  • Server model: 38 x DELL Sc1435/PE1950
  • Processor type: AMD 2 x Quad core 2.6 GHz
  • Intel 2 x Quad core 2.6 GHz
  • Memory: 16-32 GB/node
  • Network fabric: 1000T Ethernet (1 Gbit/sec)
Network

  • MPI trafic HP Procurve 48G – 2900 1000T-48 port unmanaged high performance switch, 10 GbE and stacking capable
  • Management/IPMI We use the same switch for MPI traffic and cluster management.
Storage
  • 2 x Direct Attached Storage arrays connected to the master node. Each one has a 15 TB RAID 5 volume.
Precision cooling (temperature 21°±2°,C, humidity 50%±5%).
  • Liebert 8 ton (air cooled)

Master/Login nodes
The login node is also the master node (frontend). This is one single PowerEdge 2970 server which serves as a central "master node" for the cluster. Several elements (DNS, ntp, default LSF master) of cluster infrastructure run on or originate from this server.

1xDell MD1000 - 14x1TB SATA drives in one volume (RAID5)
1xDell MD1000 - 14x1TB SAS drives in one volume (RAID5)

UPS:
1 x Gamatronic Power+ 30 kVA for the entire cluster
1 x CyberPower 1.5 kVA only for critical serices
